Hike & daily schedule

  • Day 1

    Arrival

Individual journey to Brig. Explore the old town of Brig and visit the magnificent Stockalper Castle.

  • Day 2

    Brig - Simplonpass

Hike via Ried-Brig to “Schallberg” and descend to the hamlet of “Grund”. Slightly uphill, follow the Stockalperweg along the rushing stream of Tafernabach to the ruins of the ancient tavern. The last metres in altitude to the stage destination are overcome in steep bends and rewarded with the sight of the stone eagle monument.

Option light: Save yourself around 600 metres in altitude and take the post bus to “Schallberg” (or also to Taferna). The post bus ticket is included in the price.

  • Day 3

    Simplonpass - Simplon Dorf

Past numerous alpine huts, dry-stone walls and cows, after 2.5 hours you will see the Italian-style Simplon village. A visit to the Ecomuseum in the “alten Gasthof” (old inn) and a short detour to the “Arnold” bakery and the Simplon alpine dairy are highly recommended.

  • Day 4

    Simplon Dorf - Zwischbergen

The stage destination of the third day can be reached on two different routes. After the descent to “Gabi”, the trail branches off in the direction of the Gondo Canyon or Furggu.

Variant Gondo Canyon: Over bridges, metal footbridges and the galleries of the national road, you reach Fort Gondo through the Gondo Gorge. The Stockalperweg leads 350m through the fort. After a short breather in the border village of Gondo, the last 5km into the wild and romantic Zwischbergental can be easily managed.

Furggu variant: From Gabi, the trail climbs steadily towards Furggu. Over alpine meadows and past prayer sticks, through wooded and open terrain, this variant is in stark contrast to the Gondo Gorge. Once at “Furggu”, the descent into the Zwischbergental valley begins to the hamlet of “Bord”.

  • Day 5

    Zwischbergen - Bognanco

The path runs steeply from the Zwischbergental valley up to the Monscerapass. The many natural steps seem endless. At the end, the view of the surrounding mountain peaks compensates for the effort of the ascent. A descent follows over pastures and along moors and small mountain lakes down to the scattered village of Bognanco.

  • Day 6

    Bognanco - Domodossola

From Graniga, descend along beautiful trails to Bognanco Fonti as far as Pregliasca. From here you walk first along the slope past small streams, then on a steep footpath in the woods down to Monte Ossolano and later on a wide and well-maintained paved path to Domodossola.

  • Day 7

    Domodossola

Discover the enchanting Italian town of Domodossola.

Tipp: Enjoy a café in the Piazza Mercato and stroll through the Piedmontese town of Domodossola before travelling home.
